Ask me anything Submit"6 Things That Happened While Y'all Were Preoccupied With Gay Marriage"
Over the past couple days, while everyone on Facebook has proceeded to change their profile pictures in an effort to show support for the American marriage equality movement, I was busy trying to figure out who the hell was who and, oh, found out about, you know, other shit that went on meanwhile:
- President Obama signed the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ into law, effectively barring federal courts from halting the sale or planting of genetically modified (aka GMO) and genetically engineered (GE) seeds, regardless of the health issues might arise concerning GMOs in the future.
- A bill that targets transgender people was approved by an Arizona House panel. It shields businesses from civil or criminal liability if they ban people from restrooms that don’t match their birth-assigned sex.
- Kansas lawmakers got closer to passing a new law that will discriminate against people living with HIV or AIDS by forcing them to be ‘quarantined’.
- Rapper Rick Ross came under fire for the following date-rapey rap lyrics: “Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it… I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.” Meanwhile, over 1200 women in the U.S. were raped. And approximately 3 were murdered by intimate partners.
- Approximately 35,948 Americans were arrested, taken to jail and booked. That’s just in one day. The relative majority of them were arrested for nonviolent drug crimes. They were disproportionately Black and Latino.
- Around 2,000 queer youth around the country became homeless. That’s a conservative estimate.

Communism Kills: National Bureau of Economic Studies: Clinton's Community Reinvestment Act "clear cause" for housing crisis
President Obama likes to blame “the previous administration” for the housing and economic crisis. Well, it was in a previous administration that started the housing crisis, but not the previous administration.

Kind of makes sense, though, doesn’t it?
Fact.
Most divorces are caused by financial concerns - also a fact. Reported incidence of money fights, in fact, correlate almost exactly with divorce rates. So in terms of assigning morality or causality, once again: it sure is awesome to be rich. Thanks for the ten billionth primer on that reality, Heritage.
What else does being rich improve other than health outcomes, marriages, child welfare, lifespan, educational opportunity, and absolutely everything?
CORRELATION DOES NOT EQUAL CAUSATION.Your misrepresentation of a statistic does not make sense. Marriage is not a solution to childhood poverty. Correlation, meaning two things are related, does not equal causation, meaning one causes the other.
Perhaps children or poverty cause divorce? Your statistic is as likely to mean that.
More facts.

America Less Popular in Parts of Muslim World Now than at End of Bush Term
In remarks at the Heritage Foundation today, Senator Rand Paul explained that while non-intervention alone won’t end the threat of radical Islam, intervention has the effect of fanning its flames. When President Obama first took office in 2009, he went to Cairoto try to reframe the relationship between America and the Muslim world. No amount of lofty words, however, could cover the fact that Obama largely extended and expanded upon George W. Bush’s controversial and polarizing counterterrorism efforts, even as he condemned them in Cairo. The lack of much substantive difference between Bush and Obama is reflected in polls. While perceptions of America saw a slight improvement across the Muslim world upon Obama’s election, they’ve not only been reversed but in some cases are worse than they were in 2008 (including in Egypt, Pakistan, Lebanon and Jordan). A Pew Global survey from June shows confidence in Obama down 9 percent, to 24 percent, in Muslim countries, while America’s favorability rating is down to 15 percent from 25 percent. In fact one of the few bright spots in the poll is an improvement in attitudes toward America in Russia, where favorability is up to 52 percent. More results:
